Responsible for permanently joining metal parts using high hear application to form a permanent bond. May specialize in one of hundreds of different processes of welding to join metals together.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Use electrical currents to create heat and bond metals.
Weld materials such as steel
Plan work by interpreting blueprints
Determine welding position and type of metal to be fused.
Select and set up welding equipment.
Oversee welds meet standards and specifications.
Clamps, holds, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse segments.
Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of materials.
Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces to ensure conformance with specifications.
Lays out, positions, aligns and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straight edges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities/Key Characteristics:
Knowledge of machines and tools, including design, uses, repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
Ability to make tool and equipment determination to complete task.
Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment or determine point of needing maintenance
Ability to recognize problems with product production.
Knowledge of math, metallurgy, blueprint reading and basic understanding of electricity.
Required Experience, Education and Training:
Post high school course work and/or certification preferred
2-4 years of experience
An equivalent of education and experience will be considered.
